In June 2021, the Ohio Senate passed the Senate Bill 176 for legalizing sports betting as well as charitable betting in the state. The bill has been sponsored by three senators and outlines 3 types of gaming permits, namely, kiosk, brick-and-mortar, and mobile gaming. It is believed that this bill will boost economy for businesses in the state. Residents in Ohio want sports betting to be legalized and the bill will enable further expansion of gaming here. Charitable sports betting is where you can use the proceeds from games, raffles, contests, etc to raise funds that will benefit education or be used for civic, public, and religious purposes. The Senate argued that the OCCC or Ohio Casino Control Commission will oversee activities and uphold regulations of the license holders in order to ensure that no one is exploited through illegal gaming practices. E-Bingo will also be made available for charitable organizations and these machines will once again be supervised by OCCC and the Attorney General’s office. The state will earn 10% net revenues from such activities that will be directed towards private and public education, and gambling addiction.
